Treasurer's Report – Kelly Hampton
·As of the November 17, 2007 meeting, we had a balance of $5,298.74 in the General Fund. We received $15.00 in dues and had no expenses with an ending balance of $5,313.74.
·The November 17, 2007 Scholarship starting balance was $4,357.15 and we received $50 and had no expenses for a total of $4,407.15.
·There was no further discussion on the finances and a motion was made to accept and it passed unanimously.
Coquese Washington Speaking Engagement
·We discussed having Coach Washington speak to our chapter during the Big Ten’s Women’s Basketball Tournament to be held in Indianapolis between March 6 – 9. James Vachon has contacted Tim Curley and has received permission to move forward with this engagement. Since James was unable to attend the meeting, we are unsure what hotel the women’s team will be using during their stay in Indianapolis. The meeting will be held at the team’s hotel, Victory Field or at a private residence. Details will be made available as soon as they are known.
Charlene Gaus – Regional Director
·Kelly Hampton reported that our Regional Director from the Alumni Association would like to meet with the officers and committee chairs in March. We are hoping to coordinate Charlene’s visit with Coquese Washington’s speaking engagement to the chapter.
Joe Paterno’s Induction into Hall of Fame
·Ed stated that Coach Paterno’s induction is scheduled for July 11 – 18, 2008 in South Bend, Indiana. The Dinner and Show will be held on the 18th, and the chapter is interested in purchasing 2 – 3 tables. The cost per person will be approximately $150 - $175. As the event approaches, more information will become available.
Chapter Golf Tournament – October 3, 2008
·We have scheduled a Chapter Golf Tournament for October 3, 2008, which is the day prior to the Penn State vs. Purdue football game. The Tournament will be held in Lafayette at one of Purdue’s golf courses. Brian Bachman has volunteered to run the tournament, Ed McCauley will handle the sales of the holes, and Howard Young will assist with the event. The chapter’s goal is to raise enough money to have an endowed scholarship. We need to $30,000 to endow a scholarship. The subject of a speaker for the dinner following the tournament was discussed. A Penn State celebrity or possibly Tim Curley were suggested. Marissa Snodgress volunteered to see if Larry Johnson might be available for the event.
Purdue Tailgate – October 4, 2008
·The Chapter also plans to have a tailgate in conjunction with the Purdue game in Lafayette. Ed suggested that Frank Gundrum would probably be willing to cook the food again. Kelly mentioned that we should participate in the Alumni Associations Pep Rally.
Dance Marathon
·Kelly Hampton mentioned that donations made for Dance Marathon would enable us to meet one of the 12 criteria for our chapter’s favorable distinction with the Alumni Association. Members present immediately made donations of $80 for this great cause and decided that we would try to come up with a fund-raiser for the 2009 Dance Marathon.
New Members
·A discussion was held about how we could increase our chapter membership. Currently, we have 38 family units as members. Ed stated that he would have the mailing list updated two times per year and we discussed a mailing, potential a brochure made from James Vachon’s PowerPoint presentation, to non-members which would also include a membership application and a return envelope.
Men’s Basketball Tournament Reception
·Jack Borgerding mentioned that John Navarro had met with him recently and was interested in hosting a reception around the time of the Men’s Basketball tournament, March 13 – 16, 2008. Jack will forward the information on to Ed to disseminate.
The meeting adjourned at 8:04 PM.
