Committee updates:
College Fairs – Pam Clements
·The next college fair that Penn State will be attending will take place on April 10 at the Fountains in Carmel. There are expected to be over 30 high schools attending the fair. Pam stated that they didn’t need anymore volunteers at this time, but would refer to her volunteer list if they were needed.
Membership – James Vachon
·Two mailings were sent out to alumni in the area. One was sent in the fall to invite new alumni to the area to join the chapter. The second was sent concerning the Tim Curley reception on February 28. There were some new faces at the meeting. We welcomed Brian Bachman, Jen Ross, and Alan and Noreen Porman.
Charity Event – Ed McCauley
·Ed reported about the charity event at Gleaners Food Bank in October. There were about 15 people in attendance and over 850 boxes were packed with food.
Phon-a-thon – Marissa
·One student from the area has been accepted to Penn State for the 2007-08 school year. Derek attends Ben Davis High School and is entered into the College of Engineering. She attempted to contact Derek by phone and email with no response as of yet.
Web Page – Erik Brandt
·The web page was updated before the last chapter meeting. It was suggested that we post job openings on the web site and it was decided that the chapter would make the openings available and would monitor the results.
Old Business
Paterno Engagement
·Ed is still working on the Coach Paterno speaking engagement. Ed contacted alumni chapters in the surrounding areas including Chicago, Detroit, and Toledo to help plan the event. Tim Curly later informed the chapter that Coach Paterno would not be in Chicago until August 2008. ( We found out through Tim Curley that the induction of Joe Paterno into the College Football Hall of Fame was postponed to 2008 due to his broken leg.)
Viewing Parties
·It has been suggested that we find a new location for our football viewing parties. Jen Ross suggested forming a relationship with the Alcatraz Brewing Company as they are paired up for the Big Ten Tournament. A group was formed to investigate new locations with Don Burfiend, Chuck Meek, and Brian Bachman. It was determined at a prior meeting that the viewing parties should take place preferably on the north side of Indy due to the proximity to most of the alumni.
New Business
Golf Outing
·A golf outing was suggested as another chapter activity. Ed and Howard are looking for a minimum of 2 foursomes to play. The chapter used to do this activity with other Big Ten chapters in the area, but it was canceled to due lack of involvement. It was decided to start an outing with just Penn State Alumni. Howard Young offered to help plan the outing.
Chapter Visit
·Naomi Knaub would like to schedule a visit to help guide the chapter to be stronger and provide insight. She could visit during our annual summer picnic/meeting at no cost to the chapter. She will be contacted as soon as a date for the picnic has been chosen.
Other Business
Picnic
·The present chapter members decided to have our freshman send-off/ annual meeting at an Indianapolis Indians baseball game this summer. Ed, James, and Brad will work together to form details, pick a date, and contact Naomi.
Treasurer
·Due to Matt’s move, he has resigned as treasurer. Kelly Hampton was nominated as the new treasurer. Motion was accepted by James Vachon and seconded by Craig Thomas. Congratulations Kelly.
Alumni Training
·Pam Clements inquired about the Alumni training in Chicago. The chapter will pay for two members to attend, possibly including Kelly to learn about the requirements of her new position. It was estimated to cost $500 for two people for the weekend. It was accepted into the budget by James and carried by Ray Clements.
The meeting adjourned at 7:17PM
