PSAA-Central Indiana Chapter - Minutes 9/23/2006
A meeting of the Penn State Alumni Association Central Indiana Chapter held at Champps Americana at 2:30 PM on Saturday September 23, 2006.
Treasurer's Report-Matt
·Matt Maupin was not available to give the treasurer's report. Ed gave the report and handed out a 1 page
summary prepared by Matt. The report showed a $7,027.90 beginning bank balance and a $6,625.50 ending
balance. Expenses were listed as $1,000 for the scholarship winner, $283.08 for the picnic. It also showed 40
paid up member for the current FY and $345 in new scholarship money. Ed also discussed the annual report that
was sent to the University on September 8th.
Purdue Game Tailgate-Erik
·Erik Brandt gave an update on the Purdue tailgate party. Also all monies for the Purdue game are due by
September 30th.
Game Viewing Parties
·TV viewing parties were briefly discussed as were having sound and glare problems at Champps but both were
better this week so we decided to shelve the discussion.
College Fairs-Pam
·Pam Clements was not available to give an update on College Fairs so Ed gave it. There are three fairs scheduled
for October and all are covered except one. We needed one more volunteer for the October 10th fair at the
Greenwood mall and Chuck Meek volunteered.
Chapter Membership-Ed
·Membership was discussed briefly and it was decided that Ed and James Vachon would get together and troll the
existing data base for new dues paying members. Erik Brandt would design an electronic letterhead that James
would use for an electronic letter that Ed would send out to the potential members. Growing the membership is an
important activity for the long term life of the chapter.
Charity Event-Tim
·Tim Meta was not available to give an update on our charity event so Ed gave the update. We will be packing
boxes of food at Gleaners food bank in Indianapolis, IN on Saturday October 14th which is the day of the
Michigan game. Since the Michigan game is at 8:00PM, it would work well to show up at Gleaners with our Blue
and White football jerseys. We could either go at 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon or 12:00 noon to 4:00PM. We will
need to ask for volunteers to donate a few hours of their time for this important event. Please contact Tim Meta via
e-mail and let him know if you can be available to join our group or need more information.
Phonathon-Marissa
·Marissa Snodgress was not available to give an update on Phonathon.
Chapter Scholarship
·The scholarship winner was Omesede Osagaide from Fishers, IN. The leadership committee chose her essay
over the others and she was awarded a check for $1,000 in August. We decided to keep the scholarship at one
per year and for $1,000.
Chapter Website-Erik
·Our new web designer and maintainer is Erik Brandt. He replaces Phyllis Meek who has done this for at least the
past 5 years. We thank Phyllis for all her efforts and dedication to the chapter over the years. Please check out the
web site as exciting changes have already been made.
Other Business-Ed
·We decided to pursue bringing the Singing Lions to Indiana to perform for our chapter. They are a singing and
·dancing ensemble made up of current Penn Staters and they will be on the road the week of March 2 through
·March 11th Ed will look further into the details such as lodging and payment for the ensemble members.
·We also decided to bring Naomi Knaub our PSAA Regional Director out to speak to our group next year about
what it takes to run a successful alumni chapter. It was felt that it would be good for our younger members to be
particularly present for this meeting as they are the future of the chapter. The timing of this visit was not decided but
would probably work best if coupled with our annual meeting in the summer.
·We also decided to pursue Tim Curley, Penn State Athletic Director to speak to our chapter. It was felt that the
best time to get him would be during the Big Ten basketball championships held at Conseco during the first week
of March since he would already be in town. Ed again will pursue the details.
·Still no word on the JoePa possible speaking engagement next August.
·We agreed to hold the next chapter meeting in March 2007 but an exact date was not agreed upon.
The meeting adjourned at 3:21PM
